Victory Arch
To London again this afternoon for another planning meeting for the exhibition that the Trust I am secretary to is supporting. It is due to launch towards the end of March so preparations are pretty advanced now. Not much time for picture taking so just took a shot of the illuminated Victpry Arch at the entrance to Waterloo Station. It was erected as part of the rebuilding of the station in 1922 in commemoration of the First World War. The station itself takes its name from an earlier conflict, the Battle of Waterloo having taken place just 33 years before it opened in 1848. The station was actually named Waterloo Bridge Station originally, after the nearby bridge across the Thames. It was renamed simply as Waterloo Station in 1882.
