We run 24/7

On Brighton seafront cheering on the amazing and dedicated marthon runners. I watched the elites zoom passed and stayed to watch those aiming for a 7 hour finish plod passed at this 12 mile view point in front of the Brighton Eye. There was such a buzz all day.

And a poignant moment as word got round that one runner, Sam Harper Brighouse, had paid the ultimate sacrifice in his funding raising challenge, suffering a fatal heart heart 16 miles in. Long distance running in a gruelling sport and one that pushes the body to its very limit.

This is a back blip and as we cheered on Sunday's runners, our running community and indeed the world had no idea of the horror that would unfold at Boston the following day.

Tradegy aside, there is a buzz in marathon running. It is a sport that attracts so many members of the public who have a chance to see for free elite athletes in action as well as to watch in awe people like them having a go too.

I cheered on, supporting Team Samaritans. Soaking up the buzz and seeing how it's done. In one week I would be running through the street of our capital city as part of Team Samaritans 'doing' the London Marathon.

Pictured is Dave, a vital member of member of this team. He runs many marathons in that enormous green telephone, reminding folk that our team are physically running to raise money to enable Samaritans to run 24/7.
