Moon shot
Emergency blip after an amazing concert! We don’t often have great classical concerts in Plymouth but there was one this evening in the Levinski concert hall in the university. A group of young musicians fresh out of music schools are brought together under the name of Southbank Sinfonia.
The first piece was a newly composed creation called Breakwater about the river Tamar running from its source to the Sound! The composer is a first year student at Oxford university and he was the winner of a composing competition.
Next came the Beethoven 4th Piano concerto in G major played with scintillating dexterity by Robert Taub.
The interval was followed by Beethoven 7th Symphony in A major which was played with enormous commitment and great light and shade by all the players in the orchestra! Especially loved watching a double bassist who had a huge grin on his face. In front of him was an Asian lad on the cello who played with great concentration and an unchanging facial expression.
It was all conducted by Mark Forkgen who curated an exceptional performance and felt completely wrung out walking out! I made the mistake of sitting too close to the front, I normally sit at the back so that the sound is well rounded but I wanted to see the piano action!
Leaving the concert I walked through town to get the bus and looking up spotted the moon so took a quick shot. The bow was not visible to the naked eye so I expect it was an anomaly of the camera!
