Silly Birds

It’s very cold outside again today, and the high winds make it near unbearable: -35F windchill, currently. Due to the cold the birds are conserving their energy by not flying around as much. I’ve noticed them sitting on the ground or perched inside a limb not moving for several minutes at a time, with feathers puffed to keep warm • These two carolina wrens were huddled together near our front step in the sun, before flying inside the outdoor Christmas tree, still decorated with solar lights, seeking refuge from the ferocious wind. While focused on one, the other suddenly appeared on top of the snow.
