Oviedo from a high window.

Asturias is a proud Principality again, having survived Franco´s attempt to diminish it, and Oviedo is its proud, historic capital. If you´ve seen Woody Allen´s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, you´ve seen it because it was filmed here. When friends of mine came here, in the 1960s, to study Spanish in the university, their best route from England started with a cargo boat - I´m not sure whether it was to Vigo or La Coruña. The European-funded motorway along the whole Cantabrian coast has opened Asturias up completely. Anyway, it´s an attractive city - more so than this very partial view can show.
