This is the life size bronze statue of Best Mate which stands near Miss Knight's stables at Lockinge, Oxon. The horse won the Gold Cups of 2002, 2003 and 2004

He was having his first run of the season in 2005 when he collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack at Exeter aged 10 yrs. His ashes are buried near the finishing post at Cheltenham.

He won 14 and came second in 7 of the 21 he ran, he died on his 22nd run.

What a fantastic tribute to this horse. I had not seen it before but drove past today.
