Seals

We are still Seal Wardening at Horsey.  It is time for the annual moult, where all the maturing and fully grown seals haul themselves up onto the beach to begin shedding their old coats and growing in their new ones.  They are huddled together to keep warm on a  cold January Sunday. It is an amazing sight.  As well as keeping the public a respectful distance from this lot (there are a few thousand more down the beach between Horsey and Winterton) I was keeping a wary eye on a little pup, born late in the season and now about seven weeks old.  He was away from the main group, he is not welcome and would probably be attacked if he ventured near.  Life is tough for a young seal pup.

It was very crowded today but folk, having seen this lot on Winterwatch kept a god distance away.

Backblipped from Sunday.
