Chequered skipper
A day with friends today - walk and a late lunch. We walked around Oundle and over to Ashton - for some years host of the annual Conkers championships on the green outside the chequered skipper (rare butterfly) pub. It’s a model village, built by the Rosthchilds of banking and nature conservation fame - Miriam was a renknowned entomologist, daughter of the founder of the wildlife trusts but also active on so many other fronts - she was influential in many social causes and during WW2 she worked with the code breakers at Bletchley Park - she did so many things in her long life you will have to look her up for yourself.
