Cozy chickens
I cleaned out the chicken coop today. I spread wood shavings on the floor. Dan gets them from a woodworking place and they just set out these big bags of wood shavings and people can take them. It works well. The temperature is supposed to plunge at the end of the week and I figured the girls need a clean coop. They will probably spend Saturday inside. It's only supposed to get up to 1 F with a breeze so not a good day to be out.
Anyway, Chewy is the yellow one and beside her is Scruffy. Who, to her credit, doesn't look scruffy anymore but several years ago when she was bottom of the pecking order her back was always bare. Goldie is right behind Scruff and Honey is out of sight behind the two in front. The one closet to the light is one of two I used to be able to tell apart. The other is on a little roost out of the picture. But they molted and now I can't tell them apart. At least 3 of them are laying again so that is great news with the price of eggs :-)
A warmish gray day again. Not much else going on.
Just a side note. Our Christmas tree has been up for almost 2 months and we only watered it at first. We want it to really dry out so it will burn well. One inclination that it's drying out is it starts to give off a wonderful balsam fir smell. Today that has finally started. It is so fabulous to have that wafting through the house. We would normally burn the tree on the 2nd but the weather will be too cold so we will wait another week.
