Nothing happens here...

Down to the Tyne...

This is the second Sunday a pal and I have visited the Ouseburn area of Newcastle for breakfast at Ernest’s, a popular cafe below the Byker Bridge.  We both know the area from the 70’s when it was somewhere you only visited if you’d lost your way from the city to Byker.  The river here is the Ouseburn River, the longest of Newcastle’s Tyne River tributaries and is tidal up to the base of nearby Stepney Bank.   From the industrial revolution the area grew from being an agricultural valley to a thriving manufacturing complex of glass making and pottery using the keels and wherries to travel down the Ouseburn River to the River Tyne.

Breakfast was good.  When the weather is warmer we plan to explore more of this fascinating area.
