Do I Dare?
On our Land, we have almond trees with white blossom and pink blossom. It seems that the white are sweet almonds, and the pink are bitter, which are possibly toxic (good for essential oil after treatment, but not for eating raw). Like fungi around here, I never feel sure which are safe, locals don't seem sure either, and the internet argues about it, so we mostly leave them to drop on the ground. Maybe I'll try some of the white ones...
The highlight of today was Ermelinda bringing (her newly widowed) mother for lunch, first time she's been here. Mike made bread and I made tuna pasta bake and lemon self-saucing pudding. She'd never had either, but wanted to know how to make both, and had second helpings, so that was a relief; Alentejanos can be quite conservative in their eating.
Gratefuls:
- D Eufrásia seeming to enjoy her visit
- walking to market and chatting to Maria and Zé
- Rodrigo gifting us a load of wood from pruning his oaks last year
