Traffic jam

A beautifully sunny start to the day and we made our usual Saturday morning visits to the library and to the pier for fresh fish. Took the car this time as I had to pick up a bag of bird seed and I wasn't lugging that home!

While Mrs M was buying the fish I walked out on to the seafront to see what was happening. The 'Isle of Lewis' was setting off on her run to Barra, in the Outer Hebrides, though strangely when I checked the timetable there didn't seem to be a Saturday sailing. Not far behind her the 'Loch Striven' was on her way to Lismore and way out in the Sound the 'Isle of Mull' was hanging about, maybe waiting for the traffic to clear! She's been away for some time, as after leaving Aberdeen after her overhaul the engine packed up!

It was one of those times when you can see a picture beginning to come together. As I waited, the 'Isle of Lewis' began to turn to port to make her way up the Sound of Mull and the 'Loch Striven' turned to starboard to begin her short run to Achnacroish and the 'Isle of Mull stayed over on the right. There came the moment when all I had to do was to press the shutter!

After a brief shower of rain the sky cleared again and after lunch I spent a couple of hours trying to cut ferns and pull weeds on my bank, mostly from a ladder. It's not going to get any easier!

Quote of the Day:

Planting is one of my great amusements, and even of those things which can only be for posterity, for a Septuagenary has no right to count on any thing but annuals.  - Thomas Jefferson
