Hoar frost
A truly beautiful morning to be out and about along the Maxey Cut in Glinton and Northborough, the thick hoar frost reflecting the winter sunlight, showing the fenland landscape at its best.
Although the land is flat, groups of Ash, willows and poplar provide structure and depth to the landscape, and provide valuable shelter for the many Wood Pigeons feasting on the young Oilseed Rape.
They were definitely the most numerous birds, though there were also Lapwing flocks, and a group of four Whooper Swans flew over, no doubt heading towards the large flock near Deeping St. James.
In the evening we celebrated the arrival of the Lunar New year with a home-cooked Chinese meal - more interesting and tasty than a take-away - but a lot more time-consuming!
