Lochwinnoch Goosander
Retrospectively pleased that I overcame my inertia this morning and well wrapped up in waterproofs went to the RSPB workshop at Lochwinnoch - Birding for Beginners. In my experience anything for beginners is usually not, this was, and it was excellent. We all learnt loads and afterwards I stayed on to get a blip or two.
Surprisingly for such a shocking day, and outwith the workshop session it was very busy. Apparently word had got out that a Smew had been sighted yesterday. I gather around 100 every year across Scotland are sighted in Scotland - rare winter visitors from Russia.
The extra is a trio of cormorants in various stages of development including an almost all white juvenile on the right.
An interesting day. I think I might have found a new pastime.
