Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris )
Just as we were getting ready to go to the studio Clickychick spotted this Fieldfare feeding on the windfall apples. Despite the number of winter thrushes, we get round here Fieldfares are only occasional visitors to the garden and Redwing even rarer.
I had just put the camera bags in the car but fortunately, the Pentax was to hand. So positioning myself at the cat door as shown in Kanyl's blip here, I took shots. There are in winter in the region of three quarters of a million Fieldfare here avoiding the harsher winter on the continent. Very occasionally a pair remain here during the summer and breed.
