Jim’s Tree

Please allow me to introduce you to an old friend of mine, Jim’s Tree. JT stands near the tee box of the ninth hole at Stevenage Golf Course. It bears a brass plaque with the words “Oh No! Not that tree again!”
These words were uttered by Jim nearly every week and countless other hapless golfers in between. It is a rowan tree which has red berries in the Autumn. It looks quite stunted where dozens of golf balls have smashed into it every week since it was little more than a sapling. It still has branches long enough to snake out and thwack your ball into the rough.
