Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Oh boy!

Last night just after I went to bed I had that sinking feeling of knowing that something was in my mouth which shouldn't be.... My crown had dropped out again, complete with post. When my dentist put it back last time, in September, she said that there would be no telling how long it would last and I had hoped it would do until it was time to replace it with an implant but no! I had a troubled night as a result and phoned the dentist when they opened this morning. To my delight they said, when I explained what had happened, that I could have one of their two emergency slots if I could get there in half an hour.... Could I, you'll bet I could. I had explained I wasn't in any pain but as the tooth had an open channel right into the root I was worried about infection. She's made a great job of it and I hope it will last for long enough until it is taken out. The dentist has said to call back if it happens again but she's put pretty permanent cement in so fingers crossed. I took the two receptionists a bar of chocolates to say thank you for always being so calm and helpful to someone who is a very nervous, and at the moment, an extremely regular, patient.
All this meant I had missed church so I moved to the next part of my plan which involved picking up a book for Isobel. I'd bought a new release for Eilidh - Saving Neverland - a follow up to Peter Pan and so wanted something for Isobel too. She got a rather less weighty tome entitled The Toilet Ghost! She was so excited when I gave it to her at tea time. Made my heart sing to hear her excitement, she's just starting to really enjoy stories having been fixed on biographies and factual books till now.
I bought us a lazy and rather expensive dinner of Chicken Kiev from Waitrose. I have to say it was particularly tasty, I wanted something easy on my tooth. Tomorrow I'll be baking a wee ham joint so we can have some with cauliflower cheese, one of my favourites.
We quiz watched this evening and then tuned into the Edinburgh bits of the two episodes of Winter Watch. I'm neither a Chris Packham nor a Michaela Strachan fan, so they were often fast forwarded I'm afraid.
My blip is of a couple of nearby spring things, some hazel catkins by the cycle path and some Ivy flowers near the bus stop. I do find the Ivy clusters quite fascinating in their complexity.
I have to report that the marmalade was delicious, nice and tart! Two more batches to go.
