Moot Point

Behind the public library and the council offices in Milton Keynes City Centre is a rather unassuming lump of grass.  It turns out to be the seat of local government - the folk-moot - in Anglo-Saxon Times.

If it weren't for this plaque standing next to a car-park, you'd never know.  I didn't and I've lived here for nearly 40 years.

Many people think - or used to think - of MK as a modern concrete monstrosity plonked down in the midst of the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside.  It's perhaps surprising then to think that it's been the seat of local government for over a 1000 years.
