Mount Kate House, Cradle Mountain

Mount Kate House used to be a loggers' hut. It's a charming and well preserved building and I felt fortunate to find a bloke willing to pose in front of it.

Who was Kate? Gustav and Kate Weindorfer were pioneers in the establishment of Cradle Mountain National Park (1922) and its World Heritage listing. Their story is fascinating, too long to detail here but worth searching out.

Today we did two major walks in the park, the more major of which was a two hour walk around beautiful Dove Lake (first extra), later in the day. Why not, when it stays light until 9.30? Prior to this we saw a wallaby and a wombat (second and third extras) and on the way back to the hotel an echidna. It wasn't willing to show its face so no photo opp there.

Tomorrow we leave this magical place and head for Corinna. Bear with me on the catch up dear blippers.

Thanks for hosting Bob.
