Snake Pass
Abi went off to have brunch with her mum, this morning - as it is the latter's birthday - so I took the opportunity to write my notes for this evening's radio show before having my German lesson.
When Abi got back, we loaded the car with all her stuff, and then set off for Sheffield. It was nice driving weather, the roads weren't too busy, and the journey flew by, with Abi DJing as we took it in turns to suggest songs.
I'm always delighted when she applauds one of my selections, and without making a big deal of it, I tried to think of songs that she might never have heard but primarily by female vocalists. So, inter alia, we enjoyed Sinéad O'Connor ('Mandinka' got a clap), Elastica, The Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, Transvision Vamp, and Kate Bush.
Once we arrived in Sheffield, we had a whizz 'round the busiest Aldi that I've ever been in, getting a trolley full of groceries for Abi's store cupboard, and then I dropped her off at her halls. It was such a delight to see her become more and more excited about getting back as our journey progressed. She was fit to burst by the time we pulled up outside.
And then I made good my exit, taking the trip back across Snake Pass, where some road works provided me with a stationary opportunity to take today's photo out of the car window.
