Beautiful Noise

Well, it will be, one day. Went through to Barrow to see Stu and resume our weekly meet ups for coffee - illness and Panto having prevented this for a few weeks.
He had a lot to show me. A new track he has almost finished mixing/mastering sounded very good. It was one of those where you find yourself humming the chorus after only hearing it once, and I hope it gets some airplay for the band. He had also bought an old Epiphone Les Paul. I’m not a fan of these guitars but he seems happy with it.
What did get my attention though, was this fifty year old Marshall Amp. It’s a JMP 50 “Plexi” Head and is apparently a bit of a rare and desirable thing for guitarists. But it will be a while before it is making music, as it has been languishing in a dark cellar for many years. No handle, ripped covering and missing valves are just some of the issues that need sorting. But he got it for a very good price and is going to give it to Marshall for a complete refurb - which isn’t going to be as pricy as you might think. And if all goes according to plan, he will have a superb amp that will be worth considerably more than its purchase and restoration costs. I’m looking forward to hearing it in due course, and will blip it again once it’s been restored.
Mind you, it’s probably a good job he picked it up reasonably cheaply. As you can see, it’s a bit big to sit on top of his 4x10 cab so he “needs” to buy a 4x12 cab. And, because of the way the amp will work, he might “have” to buy some new pedals. No wonder Vaughan at R&T Music was rubbing his hands together in anticipation, when he learnt about the plans this morning.
And as Vaughan also showed me details of a very nice Fender Jazz Bass that is due in, it might not only be Stuart who will be giving the credit card some punishment over the next few weeks…
