First snow
A very dull start to the day followed by a heavy hail shower which turned into a steady fall of light snow, the first of the winter.
It was still snowing when we got to Nab Wood cemetery for the funeral of my friend’s dad.
It was very interesting as the service was interspersed with medleys of his own singing and what a voice he had! He’d starting singing in church choirs and groups and went on to several societies who performed Gilbert and Sullivan around the area.
Many years ago when I was a member of Harden Music group he stood in at the last minute to perform a key role in ‘Show Boat’ (Cap’n Andy). He managed it with the help of a clip board. He also conducted a musical version of the Gospels by Rick Wakeman which was performed by W Yorkshire Methodists churches in Shibden Park, Halifax. I was invited by friend A to participate. A memorable event.
At the end of the service we had Psalm 23 also a recording of a performance by him. Many of the songs we heard were recordings from when he was on Radio Leeds in the ‘70s/‘80s.
Afterwards we had more music and a slide show of his life including the many roles he played. An interesting life, not surprising my friend is someone I’ve known for years through singing.
Blue skies and sunshine but very cold now, could be icy tonight.
