Salvage from the Wreckage

Canicross

Jo and Loki from Fartlek had recommended canicross and pointed us at the race at Salcey Forest.

Similar nerves to Sunday morning football!

An early walk for Luna to get that all-important first poo of the day out of the way and have breakfast. Then to Salcey Forest. The Canicross was the first race of the morning followed by some Human races.

Met Jo and Loki, signed on then a 10 minute wait ahead of the start line. 120+ dogs (some people had 2). Deafening barking. Luna gave up barking at individual dogs and just barked at the world.

Everything calmed down when we started and Luna and I spent the first kilometre (7k race) threading our way round slower runners. It thinned out after that. Some very muddy bits and big puddles.

Twice my laces came undone and Luna barked as the people we had run past overtook us again.

And one collision when I jumped a big puddle which Luna decided to stop and drink from.

All very enjoyable and Luna was great at running in the right direction and ignoring the other dogs.

We finished 12th out of 118, at a pace of around 7:16 a mile which was quite respectable!
