Isle of May Lighthouse
This photo of the cliffs and lighthouse on the Isle of May was improvised using a telescope looking through a dirty window. The island is 5 miles away. The lighthouse was built in 1816 by Robert Stevenson after he had finished work on the Bell Rock Lighthouse. It replaced the old coal-burning lighthouse, the remnants of which can be seen to the left of the main building, having been built in 1635. The Stevenson lighthouse has been modernised and is now solar powered.
