One Year of the Community Fridge
A year ago I blipped the early days of the Community Fridge (extra in this blip) on the steps of the Town Hall. Today, in its more permanent home in the Baptist Church Hall they had over 100 people through the door for the first time. For some it is a crucial element in their weekly economy while others take things to stop them going to landfill. In the year they have given away 15 tonnes of food which would otherwise have been wasted. I wonder what the answer is - how do we improve food distribution to reduce waste? Maybe this is the answer, schemes like this linked in to local shops all over the country. This is E, who has taken over the coordination role from H who got the whole thing started here in Portobello.
