Destination Travel Show at the GMEX
We went to the Destinations Travel show in Manchester today to get some ideas for holiday destinations this year.
My claim to fame is to do with the building where the show was held. In the early 1980s a regeneration project converted the old Manchester Central Railway Station into the GMEX convention centre. The original building was noted for having the second largest single-span unsupported arch in Britain (the widest being at St Pancras, London). My dad was on the team that rebuilt the arched roof. At the time there were only 2 companies able to do the complex job in the UK. I always feel very proud whenever I go past or into this building.
