We always stop for a stare at this view as we peddle on our way round the upper Lea valley circuit. We thought the duck looks perilously close to the edge. It should be more careful bearing in mind there aren’t any ambulances today.

The forecast was for rain in the early afternoon and , sure enough, it started just as I was putting the bike in the garage.

Later, on wondering what to have for dinner, I discovered a jar of French fish soup in the cupboard.nPurchased when last in the Charente Maritime which must have been at least 3 years ago. The use by date on the lid was July 21 but I decided to live dangerously. Perhaps silly in view of the ambulance situation. But I can report that it was delicious with all the trimmings and so far there don’t seem to be any ill effects.
