I’m not sure I’d ever heard of Anna Akhmatova before 2 weeks ago. Then her poetry turned up in 2 books I was reading, one as a witness to the siege in Stalingrad & another a novel which related to its consequences. I decided to buy some of her poetry & I’m dipping in
