Mother's Day perfection
Jumping pics on the bed in the morning during which I get hot and bothered as Mummy's do at my age. So here's the strange thing. Sat down at Church and the heavily pregnant woman whom I didn't recognise beside us says "Hello Callum". Turns out she was the Dr who saw him in another city of the megalopolis of Los Angeles for his scarlet fever/strep throat the day before. Uncannily small world. Meanwhile, Callum has scarpered in concern because he sees a young volunteer walk away with Reuben's lunch box and he runs after him to retrieve it {sigh} "Reuben's lunch box!".
So I run after Callum and Reuben runs into Fr David and gets knocked over and Fr is concerned Reuben's hurt and is looking around for me "Where's his mother?" but I'm running after Callum who's running after the boy with the lunch box. I know Reuben's head in his hands rubbing his nose is him laughing uncontrollably. Later, after a great relief that I feel we're all three well or at least on the mend for the first time in 3 weeks, we enjoy treats at St Monica's, then lunch at PJ Changs (sweets before lunch yeah yeah), then a browse through Banana Republic (Reuben shakes the mannequin's hand a little too hard and it falls off and rolls along with the bracelets across the floor and the boys wrestling on said floor leaves a little crowd of onlookers), a stroll along the California Bluffs and a Pacific Ocean dip. Callum runs in the sand ("Don't look at my rash!" he pleads self consciously) and we watch the sun descend on Mother's Day. Callum is running about trying to find my handbag seemingly camouflaged in the sand and I do a mini panic. Phew.
So we start to walk back towards the church's parking lot and progressively notice the gates are locked. We say a little prayer that our car isn't blocked behind locked gates or towed as we make the final turn in the now darker streets since sunset is immediately followed by night at this latitude, we see the open gate. Callum's face lights up. "Do you feel that, love? THAT is relief". What a lovely relaxing Mother's Day...
