Memory

Yesterday Nanna K blipped a group of small objects, it seemed to be something she was trying out from a book about memory. Immediately I thought of a game we used to play with young children, where a selection of small objects was laid out, children looked at them for a few minutes and then, when one was taken away, they had to guess which one it was. Always much harder than it sounds, but a good game for children’s parties as it calmed down even the most boisterous of children! Our grandchildren used to like playing it and it was good because everyone was at an equal level regardless of age. In fact it was often the youngest who was best at it, I don’t know why.

Well it was a quite a number of years since the children were children and played the game, but I suddenly remembered that I might still have a set of little objects. And there, in a box sitting on the bookshelf, was this selection of tiny things. Amazing that they were still there after all this time - shows they are vital things! I have made friends with a few things I had forgotten all about.

It also made me wonder about the box. I have no idea where it came from, it has just always been there, It’s rather nice isn’t it.

Addition
Thanks to a couple of Blippers I have been reminded of the name of the game - Kim’s Game. It seems to have its origin in the Scout Movement, Kim in Kipling’s book of the same name, played it whilst training to be a spy. So maybe there is something in it to do with developing memory skills. Perhaps we adults should start playing it!
