Will Cheung
Tonight, the photographic journalist and editor of "Advanced Photographer" magazine came to our photographic society to talk about his "Passion for Photography".
He was indeed passionate and enthusiastic and gave a very entertaining and enjoyable talk. His main messages were:
- always keep a camera at the ready, lens cap off, ISO and mode settings ready selected, powered on, so you don't miss any photographic opportunity.
- never stop taking photographs, even when there is no light: just wind up the ISO and keep shooting. Yes, you'll get noise (although the examples he showed taken at the maximum ISO settings on a Nikon D800 were astoundingly good) but at least you'll get a picture.
- enjoy your photography. Photograph what you want - don't worry about club judges or competitions, so long as you enjoy what you're doing.
Good messages. I took the second one to heart, wound up the ISO, and took a picture of him during the lecture. The room was dark - the only light was that reflected from the projector screen. Yes, there is a lot of digital noise but, considering the conditions, I think it is remarkably successful.
