Flooded

Happy New Year!  We awoke to a lovely bright day and a properly flooded river.   TT and his mum headed off to church, so I thought I would go out for a walk in the sunshine.  The river path by TT’s mum’s flat was impassable and there was no way on to the river path at all.  My walk therefore took me into the centre of York.  It’s so nice to wander there when there aren’t hordes of people around.  I walked back part of the way on the opposite side of the river, and viewed the flooding, then crossed over and had to take the long way via the roads back home.  Everyone was having breakfast when I returned, so I joined them and had a toasted tea cake.

We were due at TT’s brother’s for New year’s Day lunch.  Normally we would have walked there along by the river, by that was not possible, so a longer route was required.  We toasted the New Year with a glass of fizz, then had a lovely lunch.  There was loads of food – we were very well fed.  His brother then suggested a walk to the pub.  The walk was most welcome, even though it wasn’t all that far.  The pub we went to first was closed, but we carried on to another which was open.  A lovely old pub, with no music, no wifi, no TV, and just a wee bit off the beaten track for tourists.  We had a couple of drinks, then deposited BB and his Grandma back home and they took us to another pub – which was also closed, but they soon found another which was open.  This one was much more central, but thankfully wasn’t busy.  I think they would have stayed out all evening, but they remembered that they had to get back for their dog.  So saved, from a potential hangover tomorrow,  by the dog, we went our separate ways home.  We checked out the river on our way home and it was higher than earlier in the day.

We got back just in time to watch more James bond – No Time To Die.   At least we didn’t need to be fed, but we did graze throughout the evening.

This is a view over the flooded river.  I was standing by a  carpark under flats – which was flooded.
