The Tiger Who Came To Tea
You really couldn't make it up. The offer of a place for Jamie that we thought was available last night had been withdrawn by this morning. The team that work on finding them report that no NHS trust in England or Wales has a suitable psychiatric bed available. So the wait continues with no hint of a resolution. His disability may complicate things but it's a sad inditement of the state of the service. All the people we talk to couldn't be more helpful, they just don't have the resources.
And then I got to call 999 ... but not for Jamie. Ruth, at my place, heard odd noises from next door and realised that someone might be calling for help. I dashed back from Jamie's and found my elderly neighbour on the kitchen floor with what she was sure was a broken leg. She was coping remarkably well under the circumstances but clearly in much pain from a leg that she'd broken before and had repaired with a metal rod. Two calls, the emergency one which advised a three hour response time was the current situation, then a local friend who was quickly on the scene and proved to be a first aider. So I left her in good hands to return to a slightly shaken Jamie. Well done Ruth! Her acute hearing a useful asset. A St John's Ambulance responder was on the scene first but the ambulance did not arrive for four and a half hours.
Jamie and I had been in touch with Tilda. She has kindly agreed to come and stay a couple of days to be extra support and as she an Jamie are good friends, this is a huge help. Thank you Tilda!
We collected Tilda as the train strikes make travel so awkward. This allowed a little 'big shop' shopping and this Tiger just jumped off the shelf into my basket!! ..... It was 75% reduced so needed liberating anyway ;-) and everyone likes chocolate cake, don't they?
