Ian
It was sad today to attend the memorial and funeral of Ian...... he was a stalwart of our church family, and had been in many roles in his time in the church, from Sunday School teacher to Boys Brigade Captain. He had retired recently, and had intended to become our Treasurer, and was in process of the changeover from Tom to himself when he did suddenly and unexpectedly (and too soon) just before Christmas.
Ian had been a friend of my eldest daughter, Lindsay, back in the badminton days when their team won the churches badminton league and were very proud of the cup that they won. I still have a treasured photograph of Lindsay holding it.
It was a huge funeral, with a church service attended by just about everyone in our congregation, the church was packed, and the service was relayed to the hall which was also packed. We arrived about twenty five minutes before the service to find the church so full that we had to be in the hall...... Gordon, our minister retired at the end of last year, but came back to take the service to honour Ian.
There were Boys Brigade 'boys' of all ages, and at the singing of the BB hymn you could actually see them all straightening backs and standing to attention for this loved hymn.
A sad day but we did him proud.
