Sconce

..an earthwork or fort defending a ford pass or castle gate

A first visit by Enzo and myself to Queens Sconce on the outskirts of Newark town. It is apparently the most significant earthworks of the English Civil War and named after Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles I. It's of impressive size, part of which is pictured above.
