Bad Taste

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

Lisa left us today, just another flying visitor from the UK.

Caro drove her to the railway station and afterward pondered what Little Mission we could do on our way home.

She had mentioned she wanted to practice driving as far south as Paremata (about 30 minutes away) so I said maybe we could go to Pukerua Bay which is roughly halfway.

BUT when I looked at Google Maps it turns out that it takes LONGER to get to Pukerua Bay than Paremata. This is because of the new expressway called "Transmission Gully".

So Caro put us onto Transmission Gully and WENT for it! I was so proud of her, zooming along at high speed. Such high speed that I screwed up the navigation and ended up putting her on the road to Wellington itself. Whoops.

But I managed to salvage the situation and get her pointed back at Paremata and she left the expressway and

EFFING HECK! WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!!

It was quite scary. You come off the expressway and immediately hit an extremely wiggly coast road. I saw Caro careering toward the sea and/or other cars coming in the opposite direction.

"Uh-oh, uh-oh," I said.

I'm embarrassed that I didn't scream. If we'd ended up in the Pacific I'd hate for my final words to be, "whoopsie."

But anyway, Caro took control of the situation and got us back to a reasonable speed very quickly. It was a good learning experience for us both. I learned how to read an effing MAP and Caro learned not to kill us both by driving into the ocean.

More importantly she built her confidence and got to Paremata! And then I screwed up the navigation AGAIN and we ended up driving the coast road all the way home via Plimmerton. This meant we passed by both Shenée and Jefe's houses but neither of them were home.

RUDE.

When we got home I found this packet of frankly REE-volting "Pie and Sauce" flavour potato chips that Lisa bought in the spirit of experimentation.

I tasted one and lord it wasn't good.

All the same, I miss Lisa already. I loved how Caro and Lisa immediately slipped back into their old ways. For a day or two here in Paraparaumu, it was like Abbeyhill in 1999 all over again.
