The Markets and Market Steps

If you look towards the right of the market roof you can see the copper tobacco leaf. Underneath this end of the market was the bonded store and the tobacco leaf represents the impôt duty the Island received from tobacco which helped pay for these buildings. Other funding came from an early form of quantitive easing; we printed our own bank notes to create money. This bonded store was still in use until about 20 years ago. When I worked in an office on the top floor of this building we could hear the barrels being rolled in or out.
But did our ship come in today? Well M&S seem to have a delivery though I was a bit early and it mostly wasn’t yet on the shelves but I’m happy with a seeded loaf and a litre of chocolate flavored milk. Maybe not quite a balanced diet?
Not sure whether the Co-op didn’t have an order or if it’s still hidden away but no change from yesterday. But what I wanted was a jar of coffee that I forgot yesterday and there’s plenty of that.
So I didn’t spend much money. And my knees are still working reasonably well and I walked down to town, around and back home.
