OUCH!!!

It was a very painful morning. I went to the dentist for my twenty minute appointment...twenty minutes, hah!! I was in there for an hour. I've never really been scared of the dentist but knowing it was a fairly large filling replacement I was a little trepidatious. I clung on to the armrest as the large needle loomed towards my mouth, not a pleasant experience but bearable. Whilst the anaesthetic seeped around my mouth I chatted with the dentist. "Is your lip going numb now?" she asked me. My tongue was but not my lip. "I'll just give you another blast."

I was given another lot of anaesthetic, which I was told I wouldn't feel...but I did. We chatted a bit longer and then she decided to start. As the drill grinded into action I nearly shot through the roof. The dentist turned to her nurse and asked her to go and get Matt, a senior dentist. Matt duly arrived and said he would give a different anaesthetic, "You will feel a bit of pressure as I inject all round the tooth," he said. Yes I felt that too.

We waited a bit longer for it to do it's stuff and then she started drilling again...ooooouch! Matt came back in and said the best thing was to stick a temporary patch on and then try again another day....noooooooooo, I didn't want to go through all this again. "Just do it and ignore me," I said. It wasn't pleasant but I got through it and it was all done today. My jaw is aching and my tooth is still tender, it will probably be sensitive for a few days, but I survived.

Just to prolong the agony I have an appointment at Wigan Hospital tomorrow with an oral specialist. Apparently I might have some condition that could lead to severe mouth pain so I have to get it checked out. I don't even know where Wigan Hospital is!
