Fairy Bridge and Hair Ice
In Kirkhill, near Inverness, for New Year. Went for a walk in Reelig Glen today. A magical forest, maintained by local volunteers, today covered in a mantle of soft snow, so took this blip of an old snow covered foot-bridge over the Moniack Burn.
The extra is some Hair Ice on leaves. Hair Ice is caused by a fungus growing on dead wood, in freezing conditions. Wikipedia says it is "somewhat uncommon", but I'm told that it is often seen on cold winter days in the woods around Kirkhill. It seems that it is not well understood exactly how it forms.
