Allo zoo

Not the best of weather, grey and a bit damp, but not actually raining, so we decided to go to the zoo. We ended up spending nearly 5 hours there, spotting all the animals (except the lions who were hiding) and chatting about their habits and what they ate (‘why are there dead chicks in the wild cat’s enclosure?’ ‘Why do chimps like spring onions and carrots more than broccoli?’) and particularly their toilet habits! Mt’s favourite was the rhino, and they certainly looked much more like the dinosaurs we saw than the other animals! Lots of time at the penguins, with AR getting all of us to walk like them through their compound.
We had some lunch at the cafe…delicious lentil soup for me….then carried on walking around (13,500 steps today!) and ended with the chimps and of course the shop where AR bought an enormous striped rubber and Mx a snappy penguin toy.
Home and we played Save the Dodo which was very good….lots of jumping around, shouting (in a good excited way!) and helping each other remember where the tokens were. We won all three games and I think they’d have carried on for three more if it wasn’t bed time.
Once they were in bed we had supper and then cracked out the frozen cocktails. I had a particularly nice gin and lavender Bols one! Watched a quiz and knew almost no answers! Lovely day to start the year
