must have been a late night

I saw a herd of mule deer this morning still lying in. The buck was lying down by himself about 25 yards away, presumably keeping watch over a group of four does that were lying under a tree. No one was truly asleep, just contentedly chewing their cud.
A peaceful sight to start the new year!
