2022: The Sound of a Walk

Ice pellet sleet from gray cloud sheets/ Southern Pacific whistle from three miles away/ Canada geese, coyote, crow/ Queen Anne’s lace hides the song sparrow/ wren deep in a blackberry bramble/ brace of quail with their motorcycle wings/ from the north, Amity church bell rings./ Summer combine, tractor, hay truck/ mail carrier and newspaper lady on their appointed rounds. / Dylan, Knopfler, Bach, Bono, Beethoven, Garcia, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Mozart, Mickey Hart./ Poplar leaves rattle and fall/ the silence of fog - no sound at all./ And rain - rain through the pines, rain on my hat, rain on the barn, rain on all that./ Sound of my breath, sound of my heart,/ the sound of all this, its own walking art.
