Aaaagh

Angie out at the stables doing the morning muck out when she hears the screaming of a car engine, then an incredibly loud bang. She can see a car in the field. Also sees at least two cars drive past. Runs to her car & drives the 200m to the site. First there, runs to the car (no others involved), a young man inside, very large moaning "my legs are 'off', call my Mama".

Angie called emergency services. Tried then with another woman who appeared to pull him out of car through back door (couldn't open driver's door). She was very worried with all the steam/smoke coming from the engine, fire would break out & even if more damage to feet caused, he had to get out. No chance. One loses sense of time, but frustrated by time taking for emergency services took off in her car to Fire Brigade Chief's house, just as he charged out the front door. He jumped in her back set & she drove him to FB house. Then back to the scene, a few more people had arrived & got the lad out. At that moment, emergency doc arrived, followed shortly afterwards by ambulances & fire engines.

She then got out of the way & came home. I knew nothing of what had happened, but then watched for as the lad was flown off by helicopter.

To cut a long story a bit shorter, he was lucky to be alive. Talk was of a foot or both feet being "off". Luckily, 2 days later, his Mama visited to thank Angie and said the hospital were sure they could fix his feet. He's obviously black & blue from head to toe and everything hurts, but he has no other injuries. Thank goodness.

We had to go the local garage later, connected to my car, and saw the wreck. The speedo was at 140 km/h, no brake marks. For whatever reason on a dry straight stretch he had lightly gone off the side of the road exactly where a cash barrier started, it catapulted him into a boulder lined ditch and luckily out into the field.

I won't post any photos of the car, but here a link to a local site with about 15 photos at the bottom. It was also on TV.

Angie was greatly helped by Mum visiting, as she was so worried about the 19-year-old, her inability to phone his Mum at the site as he couldn't say the full number. Mum and Dad had actually tried to call yesterday, but we were out.
