Ermita de Fàtima.

The hermitage of Fàtima was built in 1956 on top of a hill. It was built so that the surrounding peasants could listen to mass without having to go to Mahón. During the decades of the sixties and seventies, the hermitage had a great activity.

The floor of the building is a single nave, longitudinal, with a semicircular apse. The material used for its construction was red stone from the area and mortar, with corners, doors and windows reinforced with carved stone. The hermitage is very sober both outside and inside. The altar is made of living stone.

The building has a porch attached to the west end.


The church is not regularly used nowadays (few peasants I guess) but is open to the public on Thursday mornings. I've wanted to have a nosy inside for years but was in the right place at the right time today. Nice, but quite simple, making it easier to mop up after those grubby peasants...
