Seeing things

Castells

If you would like to know why this man is looking a wee bit apprehensive, you can take a look in my blipfolio to see what was built on top of him.
Castells is a very Catalan tradition and today was the first day of the Casteller season. This Colla (group) is Els Xics de Granollers and today, being the first day of the Castle season, they managed to build a cuatre de vuit, basically a castle of 8 floors, with 4 people on each floor. The wee girl on the top is called the enxaneta, and when she lifts her hand in the air, the castle is finished.
Its all accompanied by gralla (kind of Catalan flute) and drums and the tunes they play actually tell the people building the castle how things are going. If there is danger of it falling down, they stop playing and so everyone knows there is a problem and whether they have to disband or not. If they do fall, it's called fer lenya, which means make timber. If you ever see one falling you'll understand the name!
