If you can't beat them...

Ivy ( Hedera helix ssp helix)

Our first day in Edinburgh with Kat.  As Kanyl hadn't visited her house before a tour of the plants in the garden was a must.  As you might expect there isn't a lot in flower at the moment, the roses that were still in bud had been hit by the frost.

Ivy in the UK is only a single species with two subspecies.  Subspecies helix is the one which climbs, while ssp hibernica stays at ground level and creeps.  Ivy doesn't flower until it is mature, this one climbs along a fence at the bottom of Kat's garden.  The berries haven't yet ripened, when they do they will turn black.

The rest of the day was mainly preparation by Kat and Clickychick for Christmas day, so Kanyl and I had a very easy day, despite offering to help.
