House clearance continued. After yesterday’s successful passing on of the novels we took the Readers Digest reference books to the charity shop. This house was definitely one of the RD’s best customers. ‘ It would be easier to negotiate leaving the European Community than it would be to cancel the subscription to the Readers Digest’, it was once said. As a result my father in law always had the right word at the right time, as well as the solution to all gardening problems, legal disputes, do it yourself projects, and family health advice, and there was always plenty of enlightening reading matter in the smallest room.
