Quarries
A damp grey walk over to Turville to look at another John Piper/Patrick Reyntiens stained glass window in St Mary's church. Turville is perhaps more widely known as the setting for the Vicar of Dibley (another television programme that I've never seen) and Cobstone windmill which features in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
St Mary's is a comparatively small church but has several very fine 20th century windows. I particularly liked these stamped quarries with their yellow fleurs-de-lys, flowers and foliage en grisaille made by the famous Victorian glassmakers James Powell & Sons. The John Piper will have to wait until another day.
