Moss and roots on the side of a hill

I'm not sure this photo captures how vivid the green of the moss was, but it was beautiful and soft to the touch. The extra is a mushroom I saw growing under a redwood tree. It was about 4 inches high, and was white (the photo makes it look blue). Anyway, I've never seen one like it, so if anyone knows what it is I'd love to find out.
