When in Rome

Well, I think the Romans would've been proud of this bridleway. Ok it's not that long (about quarter of a mile) but it's impressively straight. The area I walked today, in continued training for the three peaks challenge in July, is part covered in strange, long-disused avenues. This is 'what I call' [thanks Miranda] a proper bridleway, a routeway for horses and roughly a cart/vehicle's width. I was on a walk of an eight mile route through various terrains and gradients, and after having been 'jumped' on by one of two stray Staffordshire bull terriers (came out of nowhere! not good) I worked my way along more footpaths across numerous fields. Also on the trip, I had a close encounter with a Red Kite, and a few 'firsts' of the year - a Hare, and orange-tip butterflies.
